It’s only been a couple of hours since NYCC started and already there’s some big news. The revival of Darkstalkers was announced earlier today at the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary panel and the crowd went wild! A friend of mine was at the panel when Capcom’s Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono-san made the announcement. He told me about the energy he felt there and I could believe it too!

Following his announcement was the reveal trailer for Darkstalkers: Resurrection which is a downloadable collection that features Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3. The bundle will be available for both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The cost for Resurrection on the PSN will be $14.99 and 1200 Microsoft Points for XBL.

Resurrection will feature HD graphics and a new challenge mode for the veteran players. Also, the GGPO netcode is making a return and promises seamless online play. Even more goodies have been included in this bundle such as spectator modes, the ability to upload replays on YouTube and enhanced matchmaking.

But wait… there’s more! Ono-san states that Darkstalkers: Resurrection is just the first to come in Capcom’s attempt to bring the series back to life. So is it possible that we will see a Darkstalkers game in the same vein as Street Fighter IV? Most definitely!!!
