Nintendo product marketing manager Bill Trinen said that the stand-alone Wii U GamePad, being released in Japan at half the cost of the full console, won’t be priced or released in North America until there’s content that requires doubling up.

So if you guys plan on buying a Wii U this November, don’t plan on buy a second gamepad. This is really an interesting move by Nintendo if you think about it. What happens if yours is defective? What if your child breaks it? Will we have to go through Nintendo themselves and if so, how much will they charge?

These next few months and the first months after launch will be very interesting for Nintendo.
